Buena Vista Recreation Board

The Board’s purpose is to advise on the budget and operations of the City of Buena Vista Parks and Recreation   Department; establish related policies; plan for long-term parks and   recreation needs; and make recommendations to the Mayor and Council for investments in facilities or expanded operations.

Holiday Event Planning Committee

This board is advisory in nature only.  All plans and recommendations from this board will be proposed to the City Council for approval. To plan programs, activities, and events to celebrate various holidays which shall include MLK Jr.’s Day (January), Memorial Day (May), Independence Day (July), Veteran’s Day (November), Josh Gibson’s Birthday (December), and Christmas (December) for the City of Buena Vista. Make recommendations and suggestions for decorating the City of Buena Vista for various holidays.  Coordinate and collaborate with various groups, agencies and/or government departments that might be related to the related holiday. This board will seek various funding to support programs, activities, events, decorations, and any other necessary actions for various holidays. Increase community outreach and awareness of various holidays.

Josh Gibson Center Advisory Committee

The Board’s purpose is to advise on the budget and operations of the Josh Gibson Youth and Family Resource Center; establish related policies; plan for long-term needs; and make recommendations to the Mayor and Council for investments in facilities or expanded operations.

 

Zoning and Planning Commission

The Planning and Zoning Commission is an appointed body who reviews planning and development projects and hold meetings open to the public. The Planning and Zoning Commission is tasked with deciding variance cases and making recommendations on rezoning, special use permit and text amendments which are forwarded to City Council who ultimately grants final approval.

Buena Vista Housing Authority Commission

The mayor shall appoint five persons as commissioners of the authority created for such city.

  • Set policies for the Housing Authority regarding its course of action.
  • Pass resolutions that give the Housing Authority the direction from the Board.
  • Determine how policy is implemented by reviewing reports submitted at meetings by management staff.
  • Receive information as to the status of current programs or upcoming issues that are important to the Housing Authority
  • Review financial information.
